I used these whole allspice berries in my cochinita pibil and the earthy, clove-like flavor came through beautifully. They’re much more aromatic than the pre-ground stuff I usually buy.

The berries grind up fine and that earthy clove-like smell fills the kitchen the second you crack the jar open. I've used it in both a batch of gingerbread and a pork marinade, and it holds its own in each.

I was surprised how much more complex the flavor is compared to pre-ground stuff — these whole berries really hold that clove-like earthiness. Perfect for my holiday baking and Mexican dishes.
